Heras might not attend EPO test Roberto Heras still hasn't decided whether he'll witness his follow-up doping test next week, but his attorney said that the four-time Vuelta a España champion's presence isn't necessarily required.
No [censored] Sherlock, but if they are smart they make damn sure that they have an expert scientist who's used to testifying in court there to monitor the whole testing procedure and if he isn't allowed to monitor it that tells gives them a card to play at an appeal. Doesn't matter one bit if an ignorant racer is there to watch the tests, but his professional opinion isn't going to mean [censored] in any appeal. Sounds like the lawyer is experienced enough with exactly this type of case to cover all the bases though. Thing is, if the are following the new 3 labs procedure etc...and it's positive Heras is screwed unless he can disprove the test or come up with something really good. Since you're so knowledgeable perhaps you can explain to us how the EPO tests work and how they can determine the difference between the always present naturally occuring EPO and the human recombinent (real) EPO?
And while you're at it explain the science behind the detection technique used.

Under testing rules, two witnesses are allowed to watch laboratory technicians. Heras wanted to go, but Garriga talked him out of it. In his place will be an Italian whom Garrigo only identified a chemist with the University of Florence that he's worked with before.
"Roberto really wanted to be there, but we convinced him it's preferable that someone is there who can support something," he said. "He has not much to do there at all."
