Just a note to send my congratulations to the little scottie who prowls on Redwood Rd. I was really impressed that this little 10 or 15 lb. dog with stubby legs and a shrill bark was able to pull slightly ahead of my bike as the computer registered 23 mph. I expect that kind of speed from a big dog (and see it every morning) but not from a little fellow like this one. He couldn't keep it up for long but it was quite a sprint for as long as it lasted. I was impressed. Strange how morning dog racing affects you on a bicycle.
You made that dogs day! He won the race with the "wild dog without fur".
take care Liz

My best dog racing story: Riding with a buddy on the famous "Mojave by Moonlight" century (organizer ripped me off for the price of a jersey but that's another story). We start the ride at 8pm in Victorville. Around 1am we're in the outskirts of Barstow riding through dilapidated old farm house territory. It's almost a full moon but still very dark and we're riding with regular headlights and flashers at regular cruising speed. My riding buddy is to my right, closer to the ditch when we hear a dog leap from a yard across the ditch with vicious snarling and claws on the asphalt speeding up behind us. I yelled "DOG SPRINT" and quickly increased my speed, my buddy though was in the middle of taking a drink from his bottle so he held on to the bottle with his teeth so he could get out of the saddle and sprint. We could absolutely not tell where the dog was, but suddenly I heard the sound of spokes thwacking against mongrel muzzle, a high-pitched YIPE and the event was over.
