Definitely more to it. He asked or _was asked_?

Forget about that. From the same CN page: how about Rochelle Gilmore
setting a new absolute speed record for women behind the derny, short of
Matthé Pronk's hour record speed?! Ugh.

There has to be more to it. The guy claims Discovery stood by him through
his injuries and now he wants out? IMO, it doesn't make sense. Maybe OMC
has some insight into the situation.

His conscience was bothering him, and he decided that
he could no longer bear to belong to an outfit associated
with Tailwind and thereby tainted with the stigma
of USAC and the Dark Lord Tommy W... Weis... Whose-Name
Shall-Not-Be-Spoken. Some burdens are just too much to
    ask a man to carry.

I thought you were going to say that he refused to get on the race
preparation program. But, you're probably close to the "truth."

I'm pretty sure that hearing me following him around yelling "But
Hayden, you were the CHOSEN one!" has something to do with this.

I meant, that makes Gilmore (or women in general) look slow by comparison.

Or they're less motivated to spend an hour (more in
training) looking at a derny pilot's butt, so fewer of them
    have seriously attempted the record.

I await Schwartz or Chung googling up a page
of racy pictures of derny pilots.

Gilmore did not break any hour record, just the maximum (1 lap, I guess)
speed record for women behind the derny, now 66 km/h. From the article,
it's not absolutely clear whether that's a track, national, or world
record. I wouldn't know. I was highly surprised because the men's HOUR
record behind the derny is 66.114 km/h; I'd've thought the women to be
    over that for top speed.

It was a track record for the guy who did it recently, so I would think the
    same for her.
