  1. Mmmmm. Pea soup, made with half green and half yellow split peas, a ham
bone and about 1/3 of the ham that was left over from a dinner for
guests last week, plus onion, garlic, celery and carrot. (No bayleaf.)
I pureed all the veg before adding additional ham. It was superb.

Can I freeze the rest of the ham, or will it get really grainy?

I like your signoff, Gloria. It reminds me of friends of ours who bought a
4H pig at a county fair one year. He's a suburban kid from Atlanta, but
knows his way around BBQ and lots of ways to grill pork. She is a farm girl
from Michigan who was queen of that same county fair when she was in high
school. They decided to buy the pig and split it with her parents. They
lived in an apartment but borrowed freezer space from friends and rented a
locker in a deep freeze for a few months.

Our friends spent the rest of the year eating pork enthusiastically, and
giving some of it away to friends --like us. (It had been vacuum sealed and
frozen.) By the end of the year they had finally finished the pork, and
although they had a lot of good meals from it, they were really getting
tired of pig meat. When they got together with her family at Christmas
time, they gave the parents a Christmas gift, but then the mother told them
that their present was too big to wrap. "Dad and I decided on your
Christmas present last summer. We decided to save our half of the pig in
our freezer and to give it to you for this year." They were gracious and
smiling on the outside but screaming on the inside. They gave away a lot of
pork that Winter. Talk about eternity.

Ugh! Don't you think they'd KNOW the couple was really sick of pork?
If they wanted to give meat, why not a side of beef instead of year-old
frozen pork? It's enough to make you wanna be a vegetarian.

    Just ugh.
