I have used Norton for five years, needs re-newing each year. You do need a
fast computer plus 2gig of memory. I have never had a virus infection in all
the time I hace used it. A Firewall is also required, Windows XP Pro is not
so good.

I'm careful what I download!

I have a hardware firewall, but I also run Sygate Personal Firewall.
It's more tweakable than Zone Alarm. Sygate kept the nasties out fine
before I bought the hardware firewall. However if you don't know what a
port is, Zonealarm is fine.

All these products have a good price - free. They are all intended as
publicity to get you to buy their more upmarket corporate products.

I've just had a nasty virus get past Norton with ease. An online scan by
Kaspersky found all sorts of Trojans and worms that Norton knew nothing
about.
Norton also massively slows down your computer.
I now use AVG which seems good.
