  1. Im looking for a good guide to use for interval training for this winter, both indoors on the trainer, and outdoors weather permitting. I am looking to improve my endurance on climbs when above my lactate threshold, but also looking to improve on my sprinting ability. Anyone have any advice?

I think Dr. Coggan's summary (table 2 on page 18) might be just what you're looking for.

    coggan.pdf (application/pdf Object)

It sounds like you'll want to work on VO2 max and "threshold" (for whatever definition of threshold) with l4 and l5 workouts. Sprinting, on the other hand, is a different energy system and skill set...

Try Chris Carmichaels first book cashing in on the Lance Armstrong phenom, the LA Program (7 weeks to the new you or some such subtitle). In my opin the book is a little weak on content and has a weird training program (lots of very low HR riding - I'd have to tool around at 12 mph to keep my HR at his prescribed level 1) but it does have a bunch of different types of intervals (with trademarked names so I can't reveal them to you in this posting). Supposedly each type of interval will improve performance in a difference area eg higher VO2 max, increase lactate threshold, turn you into an awesome climber, make you irresistible to women etc etc. Seems like a good starting point for ideas and you can test to see what works.

One last pointer - I think the book might only be available in hardback and its pricey. Not worth the full price - I got mine at a discount book store for books that no one reads. The intervals cover only a few pages so you could order from your library and make notes.

Great find! I've looked at other portions of that site, but I hadn't seen that particular article. Thanks.
