Longtime no speak. Very busy with work and baby. But my interest
has also lagged because of the incessant trolls.
What I'd like to find is a runners' discussion forum like this but
with a moderator who removes troll entries and spam. Discussion forums
that I frequent include Palm PDA products, Apple computing products,
and others. Moderators remove the garbage from the discussion space.
I know, this post will only feed the trolls. But since they could
not be much more active, I doubt I am goading them to do more.
Happy trails (literally, right, Doug F.?),

Hi Josh, Good seeing you again here. Depending on what you're looking
for in a group and/or what newsreader you're using, you can killfile
either posters or topics or whatever - to "delete" or "ignore" (doesn't
show unless you tell it to read "ignored" posts). That is, I don't even
have to see treadmill threads, if I don't want.
You could also check out places like Runners World forums. They have
different forums for beginners, training, marathon, masters, high
school, shoes, etc. The information level content and poster attitude
varies considerably by group, as does the content (some technical, some
more chit-chat), but most groups have a few very knowledgeable people.
Peer pressure seems to keep things acceptable.
There's also coolrunning.com and hillrunner.com, plus an assortment of
other groups. A lot depends on what you're looking for.
Just my opinion, but moderation doesn't necessarily improve some
situations. In one group, the moderator was out of town and new posts
took 3 days to show up. In others, the moderator may let things go well
beyond what I had come to expect positively from an e-mail group
(couldn't filter in digest mode).
I prefer to do my own filtering.
