The last time I was in Germany the average German wasn't having a
pleasant time with having their country re-united.

What he is, besides being an ass, is a troll. An unimaginative little
weasel doing his best to try and get a reaction.

Overall, as a group, we have been doing well ignoring the various
trolling attempts. Whether this is one troll, or a couple, if we just
don't respond, they will become bored and move on to some other group.

I know it's tempting, a few times I wanted to respond. But, knowing
that is their goal, I resisted, not giving them the satisfaction.

So, let's all continue to ignore these losers. Please do NOT respond
to them.

We were in an outdoor cafe in Trier in 1981. A group of Germans were sitting
about four tables away and having a raucously good time. As we sat down we
overheard one of their group loudly talking in German about [censored], Der
Fueher and throwing in the occasional "Heil [censored]," etc., etc.

We were getting really shocked disgusted with the whole scene and pretty
well perplexed how everyone at the table was just sitting there listening
and enjoying themselves. Then, the guy doing the talking suddenly broke into
English, singing "Springtime for [censored]." It instantly dawned on us that
these weren't a bunch of neo-nazis, he had been describing Mel Brooks
classic "The Producers." Man, did we feel dumb.

BTW, I later heard that one of the most popular TV shows in Germany was
"Hogan's Hero's" dubbed into German. Obviously not being able to say "Heil,
[censored]!" the German dubbed voice at every instance of a "Heil...", exclaims
instead, "How high is the corn?"

You are probably safer saying that in Germany, than you are saying
something wrong on this newsgroup. My Grandfather on my fathers side
was a German Jew during the war. It was unfortunate that he died
before I was born. I am sure I could have learned alot from him. My
grandmother was a chorus girl.....I learned a hell of a lot from her.
;-) The bike tour does sound fabulous.....Germany is a beautiful
country.

My father was German (not Jewish), and lived through the war, his
opinion of [censored] and Co. was that the so called cure for the "Jewish
problem", was way worse then the perceived problem in the first place.
Unfortunately for dad he never saw the wall come down or his homeland
reunified after the Russians destroyed half of it, and the Americans
tried to "fix" the other half, of course if the Kaiser (King) hadn't
been replaced with a psuedo Frenerican republic, WW 2 would not have
occured. Dad passed on 28 years ago today.....
