A few days ago I saw someone cycling down the road with incredibly bright reflecting socks, or ankle cuffs, they were white, and appeared to be built into the sock, but the cyclist always made it through the lights as we tried to catch him up - yes I was driving, but I was only dropping 2 people and bikes home after we'd done are 45 miles that day...
Does anyone know where you might get some of these things, they were were much better than high vis jackets as they're made much more visible by the movement on the pedals or when legs when running where I'll probably use them more, as I prefer cycling in the light other than when it's back from the pub when bright reflecting socks might get odd looks.)
Any ideas? searching on any of the words I could think of hasn't turned anything up.

I have some springy ones that have white reflectives on. These are a spring that goes around the leg about two and a half times. I got them from my then LBS (Pitfields in New Malden) in about nineteen eighty lots and haven't seen any like them since.
I use them daily as cycle clips and very effective they are too.

Were they in some way better than the reflective bits typically built into the heel of a training shoe for road use?

yes, he had such shoes on too, and you could see his ankles long before you could see those, you could see them before his rear light, which was better than the average you get on bikes round here.
Of the suggested ones, it's definately not the wiggle ones, I've seen those on runners and they're not anything like as bright. The evans one sure could be it, thanks people!
I'll add my recommendation for these. I don't bother with them on my ankles (not a lot of point when I'm riding a bent), but I wear them on my arms to make hand signals more visible.
Come on David, you're much more descriptive than I. But I'll give it a go.
A stiff yet very springy plastic coil. About 1cm deep. Quite long (but you can't open them out flat - they'd break) - they go about twice round my skinny ankles.

Mine do about that round quite big ankles. Your description was good, but to save a kiloword I've made use of the cameraphone..
The mug is there for size reference and will shortly be filled..
With G&T? Yes, these are diferent and look better than the springy ones I have, they're not long and/or strong enough to really hold my trousers out of my chainwheel.

THAT'S the buggers! Same colour as mine, David - what good taste you have. ;-)
OK, UKRCers, if you see any of these on sale please shout very loudly.
Mine get weekly use. Not on my commute 'cos I wear leggings so don't need them. But any utility trips at the weekend or trips to the pub dressed in jeans, they are used.
Both mine have had their 'back broken' so, although they still work perfectly, I guess they'll break eventualy.

Mine are still just fine, and very springy. It seems they are still quite reflective (but not so good for cleaning pans).
