  1. i am just an amateur, biking for pleasure and... yes, to keep fit. i live in athens greece and i have an ideal city bike. i was wondering if someone could suggest me a low budget bike turbo trainer. or if someone could tell me which one NOT to buy! what about the minoura mag 500? its quite cheep but... is it a reasonably good one? has anyone got any bad (or good!) experience with this one?
    thx

  2. hhmm.... this should help you.

I do heaps of training on a mag, any mag will do that is stong! I have broken 3 as a result of a poor design.

Make sure that were the mag connects to the rear quick relases that part of the mag is connected with two parts of metal forming a triangle! Understand! hard to say in writing!

So..the star is the quick relase!

    /*\
    / \
    / \ = strong

    *\
    \
    ___ \ = Weak!

there is too much movement and while doing sprints the mag flexes and results in a break and then you go flying forwards towards your TV! Its quite funny after you think about it afterwards! But this is heavy training!

  3. I have a Cyclops Fluid 2 trainer and I really like it. The promos say it is as close to the Road feelong as possible and I tend to agree.

Stay away from the rim connected trainers as they don't give you avery good resistance feeling.

The problem with turbo trainers is though that you will wear out some tyres.

  4. You can buy full rubber tyers! with no air! they are designed for the mag!

They are a very good investment! I have scrolled up a few tyres on mags before but the full rubbers are great!

  5. haha flying towards ur tv! now, that would be a new experience!
and yes ur drawing was pretty useful. i know what u mean.

i hope i can find full rubber tyres here in greece!!! to begin with, it was hard findind a store that sells mag trainers. and they only have "elite" brand. check it out if u want on
    http://www.elite-it.com/jsp/c-Prodotti.jsp?ID=16%20f.
and tell me what u think... the triangle u were saying is formed here, right? or should it connect exactly where the quick release is?
    thx

  6. i see what u mean, however, Cyclops Fluid 2 trainer is way beyond my budget. if i order it from abroad it would cost me some 400$. and i cant find those here in greece.

  7. Yeah the whole TV thing is a funny expreince! I think all should experince it!

Sorry late reply, been away racing!

That link does not work, sorry cant tell!

But I think you know what I mean.

once I was in Noosa, for the big noosa tri!(I rode there from cairns in 7 days,2200kms! I was stupid!) and they had this one mag that was so week this little girl(young and I mean about 17) was on it, sitting down and the whole bike was going left to right) I would not touch it, then the guy asked my to have a go, as it was connected to a tv and you can race against the computer! But I couldnt!

  8. Kreitler rollers! I've got their cheaper ones, and I still think they are great. Use your big gears, go fast, spin, pedal as hard as you can! Do intervals, whatever, they are great and will make you a much better rider!
