My fixie's front tyre recently suffered a mishap of the explosive decompression variety, so I fitted a new Michelin. Which rubs on the mudguard.
So, it's guard adjustment time. Of course, I forgot that not only the mudguard but the front light and front brake all depend from the same bolt through the fork crown and you can't adjust one without inadvertently adjusting the others. Grr.
Anyone got a spare hand or pseudopod they could lend me?

I use the wife.

I eventually got it adjusted by tying the mudguard in place with string and holding the lamp and brake caliper while adjusting the allen bolt. A lot of faff, and the clearances still aren't perfect.
Check under the fork crown - mine has a (vertical) tapped hole there, and the humungous sks mudguard bolts up into it, with a spacer(*) to set the clearance. Thats one less thing hanging off the horizontal drilling.

I'll have a look down there but I think the steerer of the fork is hollow. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Then you're laughing: just whack a star-fangled nut of appropriate size from an aheadset up there, and sheldonbrown's yer unkle.

Doesn't it interfere with anything you do want on the horizontal drilling? I know I had to move a reflector off a fork mounted bracket onto handlebars when I installed mudguards held on by a plug in a hollow fork on my son's bike, but the star-fangled thingy might be shallower.
