installing shimano chain

  1. quick question.

    I am installing a new Shimano Ultegra 9spd chain but the directions are unclear.

    Here is the directions for the 10spd version.

    On the picture it shows the direction of travel as being to the left. On the blown up picture, however, it has an arrow pointing to the right. Was the direction of travel reversed for the blown up picture? Am I just not reading the picture correctly?

    I believe that arrow is just showing you that the chains go together. Those blown up pictures are showing you the same chain position as in the picture above them. Just put the connecting pin in so that it is always leading the chain's direction of travel.
