Some of us dolts are slow learners, but learn none the less. I do plan on asking questions in the
future on what 'really' works, and last. That is something the manufacturers are less likely to
'accurately' answer. I do like to learn the real truth, and asking is the only way, so be prepared,
and I hope you participate, and share your knowledge.

Perhaps the person wants to hear from the people who ride (such as yourself) and use the stuff
rather than from someone who is going to tell them the gizmo is the 'biggest, bestest, fastest,
most" tool in the world and they won't be a real man if they don't have one. (the manufacturer) The
only real risk in asking (or answering) here is getting told they are a 'dumbass' for not using
what you do.

Michael, I think what JD is objecting to are folks who ask "How do I adjust my RockSux Psycho?" when
the info is available in the instruction book/Owners' Manual. Asking "which is best" has not been a
problem here (apart from the fact that we all have different opinions ;-)).

I have been amused by this for quite some time - and it's not just
a.m-b that's afflicted with this disease. I figure that if they can type, they can RTFM, and if
that doesn't clear it up, call the manufacturer, or your LBS, or somebody that might actually
have a clue.

Scenario: you come onto a.m-b cold, and have no clue about who knows what about what. You ask a
question and get five different answers, and decide to take the advice of Duhski or DogPoop, or, if
you are really unlucky, Travis. Now, you're more screwed than when you didn't know anything.

The other day, I was look around on the packaging of my handlebars to see what the proper tightening
torque of the stem bolts/handlbar interface was supposed to be. No clue. Called up the toll-free of
the manufacturer and asked. Nobody knew right off, which kind of scared me. They had to find a
technical manual in some portion of the engineering dept., and finally told me "whatever the stem
maker says." LOL. It seems a tad more than would be required, but at least I know now. But really,
WTF would any of the a.m-b denizens know, unless they had this exact same bar and stem combo? Even
then, maybe they might not remember correctly.

Although he is not to you and I, the originator of this thread is just as nameless and faceless
(thank God) to others who come and ask questions. I think, no, I know I'd rather have advice given
from a serious rider or an LBS employee then someone who sits at a desk and gives you directions
that they are only reading off of a computer screen when prompted to.

Not to sound like a wide-eyed idealist here, but this is the beauty of the net. You talk to your
friends and get their opinions. You go online and check out the manufacturer's website. You google
for reviews of the subject. You find some newsgroups, mailing lists, etc., check out their archives,
and possibly post a question.

Of course you're going to get conflicting information, but I'd rather have tons to choose from than
a single source.
