Pumping up tyres then...BOOOM

    Was just pumping up a new tube (Specialized 700x20/28), got just to ~125psi then the valve just broke off with it stuck in the pump. I'm guessing the problem is more so that I was pumping with the valve hanging down (my gauge is on the underside) so I could see how it was going, and with the motion with not being able to press down I guess I wiggled it from side to side just too much.

    Now I'm going to sound like a real cheapskate here and also knowing many will chuck a tube just for a puncture but can I superglue the valve back to the tube? Or should it just be binned? The valve came off clean with a pretty smooth circle.

    Trash the tube. Recycle the tube. Make rubber bands out of the tube. You can't glue the stem back on. When you remove the chuck, push it off with your thumb.

    I doubt that it broke because of the position of the valve while pumping. Probably a cheap defective tube. It cannot be repaired.

    Don't skimp on tubes, buy Conti or Michi!

    Also, use a floor pump with a hose, much better!

    Thanks for the advice all.

    Will buy some conti tubes (already ~impressed by the gator tyres) or at least not Specialized again ;[

    As for the tube, rubber bands sounds like a great idea.../snip
