threaded hedset - use 1" fork in 1 1/8 headtube

What you need is headtube diameter reducers -- basically pieces of alu you
hammer into the headtube that fit a regular 1" headset inside them.

Although I suppose if you can get the special parts, that might work if
your demands out of a headset are as low-quality as they're likely to be.
You say they're on low-end department stores -- sometimes you can order
spare parts for those bikes, so try that.

Get a QBP 'problem solver' headtube reducer. A shim that presses into
the 1 1/8inch headtbe so you can use any 1 inch HS and fork. I have
them on my Moots fixie-About $30.

I've seen competitor's versions for about $20 in LBS, not sure but I believe Zoom was the brand.

Rather than a head tube/set reducer-I'd actually like the idea of increasing the steerer tube/set race diameter to drop into a 1 1/8 headtube/set if such an adapter exists so that I can switch back to the original fork regularly. Any steering tube-headset increaser exist.
