I was thinking of going, but decided that I wasn't the sort of person who
would lay down his life for the right of others to say something I disagreed

Rather busier than usual. ? 700 participants (I don't know if anyone
did a proper count). Seemed even slower and covered less ground than
usual too despite going on for longer (past the police bikes usual
knocking off time). Waterloo Bridge - Strand -Trafalgar Square-
Buckingham Palace - Parliament Square (bikes in air - yawn) - Whitehall
- Trafalgar Square - Charing Cross Road - Centre Point - Oxford Street
- Oxford Circus (bikes in air - yawn! - protracted delay) - Piccadilly
Circus (bikes in air - yawn) - Trafalgar Square... where I left at
22.10 as some of the rent-a-crowd bikers seemed to want to get into a
shouting match with the police on bikes ???

Best bits were going up the Mall with the bicycle mounted Samba band (?
9 piece band - some riding and playing ; others playing while riders
did the biking - in pedicabs / 8 freight / sitting on a rear rack ) and
meeting the Friday night skate coming one way down Whitehall while the
mass went up the other.

Also interested when a pedestrian harangued one of the police bikers in
Parliament Square asking why they didn't do something about all these
bikes clogging the road up. "Well, what do you expect us to do -
there's 10 of us and 500 of them."

I got off at Parliament Sq. As soon as the first bike goes over someone's
head, that was it for me. I was next to the band on the way up the Mall,
very cool. Shame to have missed the FNS, but I really should take up the job
of cycling their sound system some time.

You can see the route tonight, but it's not exactly much to look at. Took an
hour and a half to get to the point that I left. Sod that for fun.

Still, got to meet LSMike! At last! Not the best event as he was on his
'bent, and at that low speed was having a wobbling time of it! Still, I
caught him going underneath the other cyclists later on, so he looked like
he was having very, very good practice of technical riding! I did more
trackstands than ever tonight.

Blimey - I thought this thread was about the "Condemned Man" in the
chain oil on carpet caper. The mind boggles as to how he made it onto
national TV!

There were a few recumbents but I didn't spot LSMike's (Challenge
Hurricane?) although I was looking out for it, so I missed you three
although I did meet Not Responding and Colin McKenzie before the start.
Meeting the Skate coming the other way was a great moment. I was also
very impressed with Patrick Field's no hands track stand. Left Trafalgar
Square shortly after 10 as I had a 200 the next day. It was still all
good humoured when I left.
