For many years I have used Rubbermaid heat-resistant rubber spatulas, but
even those eventually melted at higher cooking temperatures, and also no
longer appear to be available.
I have looked at the many silicone spatulas now available, but was
unwilling to pay the usual $8-20 price tag they usually fetch.
Several weeks ago I was shopping at a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and
discovered a "no-name" brand of silicone spatula at the very low price of ~
$2.00. I was skeptical, but willing to give them a shot. There were two
styles, the usual flat spatula and one that was semi spoon-shaped. They
are of average size. I bought one of each style. The spatulas come in
the usual variety of silicone colors and have very sturdy frosted plastic
handles. They are rated up to 450 degrees F.
I didn't post about them earlier because I was wary of disappointment.
Having used them on a daily basis since I bought them, I couldn't rate them
high enough. I went back and bought six more, 3 of each style.
I would highly recommend them, as they are a real bargain at that price,
and I'm sure they perform as well as any of the other pricey brands.
I know that some silicone spatulas are rated up to as high as 650-700
degrees F., but I have no need for that high a rating.
