  1. For any of you that do regular hill climbs for your training, I was pointed to this site, which has a bunch of stats on hill climbs in Oz

    cycle2max.comFregion

So if you're interested in how much power you put out, and don't have a power meter, all you need to know is your weight (and bike weight) and how long the climb took and it'll work it out for you. Woohoo, 3.6W/Kg on my best effort up Mt Gravatt....

  2. yep, have lurked on this in the past. Good to compare my time with others'. I have not got very sophisticated with power etc but this would certainly be valuable if looking at this. Also interesting to see count of rides - where are the high numbers - when going to Brisvegas next time, I'd use this (as well as this forum) to help me workout where I'll train and stay etc.

In Adel, the SA forum also provides a place for local discussion re rides, hills, sales, racing etc.

What a site... thanks! Wow... so many hills!

Well, today I did the 1:20 for the very first time. This is after most cyclists scaring me off it as 'too hard', 'a killer', blah, blah. Well, it wasn't fun exactly, but I managed to keep talking all the way up; and I wasn't fast (mumbles some incomprehensibly long time); and I made good use of *all* the gears 😉; and it wasn't so slow I just fell off sideways 🙂

Anyway, at least I have something to improve on, yes??

    cheers,
    Ali

    one day... maybe...

I spoke to another woman who was riding up 1:20 today. She said she knocked off quite a few minutes by buying a new bike...

Is this a reason for a new bike?? 😉

You don't need a reason to bike a new bike!

Go on do Mt Hotham. I'm doing it. Never done it before or the 1:20 so you're a step ahead

Or to buy a new bike even 🙁

Don't worry about the new bike, just get the motor going a bit better and then that will determine what bike and gear you will need for the future. 😄

Lots of good riding around that area, even a trip to Emerald is a good option. My favorite circuit is 1/20 - Emerald - Yellingbow - Monbulk - Olinda - Mt Dandenong - Montrose - home.🙂

A good little trip is up the 1/20 then left at the top, down sherbrooke road to Killista, then to Monbulk, then up the wall to Olinda and Mt Dandenong, down to Montrose and then home or another circuit or three. 🙄

Does this mean you're coming on the aboc climbing camp? 🙂

I wish! But unless VCE exams get cancelled this year I'll be soothing the furrowed brows of the young and worried and keeping food and drink supplies replenished for them (in the hope that this will encourage some actual studying!)

Mt Hotham actually seems an easier challenge in comparison 🙁

    cheers,

Anybody here ridden up Harveys Range? I think the total climb is only 4k
but it looks pretty bloody steep no idea what the stats for it are. I
want to have crack at it once I get my new steed.

Beginning is a bit of a shock after soo much flat but just as you are getting used to it ( or saying to self "stuff this"😉 the gradient eases off a bit and stays constant to the top.
Its a harder ride than Castle Hill in that there is very little variation in grade and you can see most of the road ahead, unlike the twists and turns of Castle Hill. ( Which apparently is only 20 feet short of being a mountain)
    One blessing - No Pedestrians

Trying to get my head around working on a Mt Stuart climb. That IS hard.

    Cheers
    Hugh

P.S. Social rides leave from behind Bob Jane at Rising Sun lights at 0600h Sunday mornings. Course just depends on numbers and abilities and will often split in 2 bunches.

Not until there is the "sedate pace" option 🙂

but it was a great morning for a ride out west, and a tailwind home! yay!

Good site isn't it? I might have to have a crack at Mt Gravatt. I've had 2
weeks off training, and did Mt Cootha on thursday feeling very flat but I
beat my PB just doing intervals so maybe I needed a break! Still *nowhere*
    near the fastest time though...🙁

Good ride this morning. Five of us and did 40k around town at a pace of about 25-30kmh with a sprint along Boundary St with me hitting 42k ( into a headwind) as I faded off the back.
Went out to Stuart, Copper Refinery, Bruce Hwy, Oonoomba, Railway Estate, Reclaim, South Tsv, City and The Strand where I left as others were going home to T'gowa. Did a loop around town again then home - 57k at 23kmh av which includes about 15 minutes of talkin and gawkin. ( HMAS Kinimbla is in)
Lots of riders at Bob Jane at 0600h. Bunch of about 20 club roadies going to Calcium ( looking Tooo serious) a bunch of 6 MTBers all kitted up to jump every gutter in town, n us.

Hope to see you next sunday morn. Course & speed are adjusted for abilities.

    Cheers
    Hugh
