  1. A couple of nights ago I dreamt that I was JRA when
suddenly my handlebar came loose in the clamp of the
stem, such that I could push it through side-to-side.

It was just a dumb dream and not my usual prescience
so I'm not even gonna check it.

    cheers,
    Tom

    *******
    I haven't had a cycling dream(or nightmare) that I can recall- it's
probably just a matter of time -but one time I dreamt that the antenna
    on my cell phone broke.

I once dreamt that I was riding along in the dark and hit a dead cat!
Feet slipped off the pedals (I still use platform pedals). Butt slipped
off the seat. Crotch hit the top bar. Hard! I clamped on the brakes and
fell over. There I was, laying in the street for about 10 minutes, in
the dark, alone, writhing in pain, trying not to puke.

Then, to make it worse, after I got going again, I got a flat tire about
    2 miles later!

Oh, wait, THAT was all real!!!

That was a bad morning commute. I quickly got a better lighting system,
    after that day!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention
of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body.
But rather, it’s to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,
totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a ride!!!'

    You're not kidding!

Well, I have better lights than I did back then, so I *should* be able
to see a dead animal before hitting it!

  10. I had adream a few weeks ago about fixing a flat! In the dream, i was
about to go on a ride and i discovered my front tire was flat. I
thought, oh, [censored]. But then i thought it's better than having a flat out
on a lonely road. SO I set about fixing it, but I noticed the valve on
the new tube looked different. I wondered if it would fit my pump. It
did! When I got the flat fixed, i wondered if I'd done it right. I asked
a friend (also a cyclist) to take a look at it, and he said, "Sure, you
just have to put a bit more air in the tire." I felt very proud of
myself for not being put off by that weird valve and that now I could go
    out on a ride!

    not to puke!

On nearly every descent of any magnitude, my wife has some measure of
this daydream where her entire bike just falls apart--to the
fastener--simultaneously. (For the record: she had this daydream long
before I starting doing all the maintenance on the bike <g>😉.

Needless to say, she goes through brake pads faster than I do.

    I don't know how, but I didn't puke. I tell ya, it wasn't a fun commute,
that morning. I still cringe when I think about it.

Sure glad it was really early and no cars came along - might have run ME
over, right after running that same dead cat over!

I remember watching some tape from OLN and they had footage of the Mt
Washington hill climb. This was from a couple of years ago. A couple of
the guys puked when they got to the top- one of them I remember was from
Credit Agricole. I don't know who. Just leaned over his bars and lost
it- looked mostly like Gatorade. I figure, if you climb Mt Washington,
    you're entitled to throw up.

Something like that ALMOST happened to me once after climbing on a humid
day... i just sat there sweating, breathing through my mouth, and
finally it subsided. But it was close!

    Ahhh, yes.

Around here, one of the old Half Marathons was always run the morning
after the locally-famous Rosarito-Ensenada (Baja California, Mexico)
    50-mile bike ride/drunk fest.

About eight miles into the Half Marathon was the Torrey Pines hill--a
    not-so-long, but oh-so-steep uphill.

You could always tell who had done the bike ride/drunk fest the night
before: in the first half of the Torrey Pines hill, the pack of
runners would begin to smell faintly of Cuervo. A bit further up the
hill, numerous runners would dash off to the bushes to wretch.

    Good times. Good times....
