Quoted message said:Firstly let me say I think I got my week-ends wrong - time flies! I was
probably thinking of the previous week-end.
I can't even remember the previous weekend. (Memory like a sieve).
Quoted message said:Anyway, your walk from the Usk, although short by your standards isn't
particularly pleasant as I see it. I presume you went via Foel Tarw to
Fan Foel - a bit of a "pull-up" for us lesser mortals. If not then the
lower level past Llyn-y-Fan Fawr is quite nice if it's not so good on
the tops.
Can't place Foel Tawr. We vaguely followed the Usk but kept to the drier
ground. The final pull up Fan Foel is steep but not very long. I had
hoped to divert right and go up via Bwlch Blaen-Twrch but from the back
of the group was unable to influence the one in front.
Quoted message said:Judith and I were at the shack sheltering from horrendous weather last
November and it had a slate roof then - though we thought we were going
to lode the roof at any moment the wind was so strong.
The previous time I was there the slate roof had several holes in it.
The metal roof is very recent and probably isn't finished yet. (Daylight
along the ridge and water running down the chimney breast. Off-cuts of
new wood on the floor.)
Quoted message said:I found the
ascent of Blen Twrch quite steep but I enjoyed it when PS and I went
that way some time ago. Then the clag was so thick we could see nothing
from Picws Du.
The path is a good one considering the steepness of the ground (only one
large step-up). The first time I went up that way I mistook the path
leading right for a sheep track out onto the crag and attacked the steep
grass direct. If it had been any steeper I would have parted company
with the hillside and I was considerably miffed when I rejoined the
track near the top.
Quoted message said:I must have a go at Llyn-y-Fan Fach to Tafarn y Garreg sometime :-)
Eight of us were in the Tavern for a meal on the Friday night. (Not your
prints on the wall are they Bill?) A new landlord and the food was even
better than previous visits when it had merely been very good.
Quoted message said:Nice report Roger and I'm glad you made something out of what appears to
have been a grotty weekend weather wise, even if I have forgotten about
it:-)
Thanks Bill. Eh what weekend? :-)
