AAAAARG! It's a hairline fracture!

Sh!t back to the search. I don't think it would be wise to build it
up with even a small fracture in the top tube.

I am in the same boat. I have been looking to build up a Touring bike for
some time. I have always liked the Atlantis, or the cheaper Surly Long Haul
Trucker. I have amassed quite a few parts mostly late 90's XT. Just need a
frame and a few other parts like a quill stem, spokes, the smaller stuff. I
don't really wanna buck up for a frame I am just kinda hoping one finds me,
or something like that. Anyway I have been watching the local recycling
center and from time to time someone dumps off something suitable, but...
too small, small crack, or something... realistically I will probably have
to buy something.

Hmm... 2 hour drive, one way? So four hour drive, figure a low estimate
of 200 miles, figure your auto gets around 20mpg, so that's 10 gallons
so far. Up here, that would put you almost $30 in the hole so far.
The price of freedom....
No way to repair that hairline fracture?

Hmmm...what size road frame do you use? Maybe I can possibly hook you up,
I'll keep an eye out.

We just rode our fixies yesterday because the trails are too muddy from all
the rain. Its the first time I've been out on a bike in about 2 weeks since
my car accident/injury. It felt good, but my legs felt like mush, from being
off the bike for too long.

Car accident? I must be out of the loop. Glad to hear you're back in
the saddle.
Tour de Bronx was yesterday. Lots of fast trackies. I was riding my
road bike and these guys were hauling, tight turns and everything.
I tried the track bike last year and it was fine except for coming down
some of the bigger hills. 212lbs requires mondo torque to stay at a
manageable "in case of emergency" speed down the steeps -- I thought my
eyes might pop out.
Wound up being a suprisingly nice, windy day. Even got some scooter
motorpacing from most cool Officer Perez from the Bx!

car as I was crossing the intersection on green. He wiped out my whole front
end, my car spun around and hit him again, so my car got banged up good too.

Damn, Carla. I must have been sleeping, too, as I don't remember hearing
about your accident (or seeing the pics).

That truly sucks; hope your recovery is as fast and full as possible.

(I was in a relatively minor wreck YEARS ago, and have had lower back
problems ever since. Stick with the PT!)

I can't unload it, it was a brand new car, I'll lose money big time because
the car was involved in an accident. I only just started paying it off 5
months ago. I would never get the value of a new car because of what
happened to it. I would imagine the frame is slightly off, he was going
50-60 in a 30 zone and blew right through a red and slammed into my
side(driver side) of the car. He hit me so hard that the car spun around and
hit the van again and my car wound up rolling off the side of the road with
me in it. Gawd damn was that scary.

The jerks ass is in the process of suege, hopefully...

Hope you have a speedy recovery and get adequately compensated one way
or another.

I almost totaled a new car hitting a deer going 65 on the way back from
Fruita a few years ago and it ended up being 9k worth, but not quite
enough to be totaled. The car ended up as good as new after the repairs,
so maybe yours will too (mine looked worse). Since it wasn't totaled, I
don't think you're required to disclose the accident if/when you sell
it. Of course that may only be a Colorado thing, but be sure to know
before you disclose. You might not have to.

You're absolutely right. I was rear-ended a few years back by a mom in a
minivan who was paying absolutely no attention to her driving. She just
sort of clipped me en route to her final destination (a telephone pole),
but it doesn't take much to do a few thousand dollars in damage. The
repair job was fantastic, like new. The dealer had no idea, but I did the
legal thing and disclosed it; that cost me about 20% of the trade-in
value. It really sucks when its not your fault, too.

Hope you recover quickly, and heal for good. That's the important thing.

Investigate a claim for "diminished value" (Google
is your friend) with the company's insurance
provider or through more normal legal means (small
claims, etc.).

For once, I'm happy that one of us was in a car rather than on a bike.
Getting slammed like that in a car is traumatic. On a bike... ooof.
