I love the CR1 frameset and nearly purchased one, but decided against it because I race and this bike in its current incarnation does not have a replaceable deraileur hanger. That's a big drawback if you intend to ride crits or do anything else where a crash might damage that side of the bike.

I actually ended up with the TCR Composite. It's heavier and not as fast, but cheaper and has a replaceable hanger.

Just my .02 cents.

I just picked up one of these puppies yesterday. I cant speak from extensive experience with it yet, but I can tell you that this is a fast, stiff bike that gives you an incredibly smooth ride. It climbs like no bike that I have ever ridden. After 40 miles I am very happy with my purchase so far.

I kinda always thought a bike was fast because of the rider. I dont think the same rider would be any faster or slower on the TCR or the CR1.

Obvoiously the rider is the engine but the bike makes a big difference. My old bike is a Bianchi Vigorrelli (steel frame). My average speed over the 40 mile loop that I do every day on that bike was between 19 and 20 mph. Today I didnt ride all out and had an average speed of 20.6 on the Scott. I attribute the increase to the 4 pounds of weight loss between the 2 bikes and the speed with which the Scott climbs. So yes, a change in bikes can make you faster.

Yeah, i seem to agree that weight makes a difference in any level of riders. I used to ride a 2001 Trek y 66, all carbon but frame weighs 3.5lbs i think, and now i ride a 2004 Giant TCR w/ campy record groupo except for the FSA cranks. Must of shaved like 4 lbs. also and i definitely fee the difference in climbs. Not so much on flat.

I always dreamed of getting the CR1! It's georgous! I don't think i'll improve if i switch to the CR1 but definitely feel like a champ!

Went ahead and bought the Cr1 yesterday, the 56cm size. After a few test rides of about 5 miles, we tweaked the fit. Had to switchout the original stem to a 90mm with a 6 degree rise, and the bike fits perfectly. Part of me says that I could have bought the 54cm and with the original stem and the fit would have been right from the beginning, but my first real ride will be this morning.
