  1. Spent Saturday night in Craven Arms, so that I could get a quick start in
the morning. I'd forgotten so much. You folks are right. It IS the most ugly
    town in Shropshire.

However, the B&B was fascinating - it seemed to be a 'lads' B&B - doubt
whether any women have stayed there (or if they have I bet they never came
back). The Stokesay Castle Hotel is pub run by a guy called Steve who, I
suspect, could become a cult character. The rooms were clean if not
inspirational, no towels and no working light in the bathroom - Steve simply
put on the shaving mirror light. And this morning the guy who was supposed
to cook my breakfast overslept. There was me wondering around the ground
floor, with all of the doors locked and the alarms on! Still Steve hear me
stumbling around, got up and made breakfast for me and the other tow guests
    (both lads).

Whatever else Craven Arms is, it is not a tourist centre. But in their own
sweet way they were very welcoming!

Walked from Croven Arms, along the Shropshire Way, onto the Mynd ridge at
'Rabbit Warren' and then walked along the ridge to Poll Bank. Didn't see a
soul until I met some cyclists while I was having my sandwiches at Pole
    Bank. Wonderful walking.

    South Shropshire...

Telford is up against Cumbernauld in international ugtown competition.
The Ludlow New Town ( the non tourist half) takes a lot of beating.

Telford is no longer in Shropshire. We expelled it .. it now has it's
own bin called 'Telford and the Wrekin'. One feels slightly sorry for
The Wrekin, which basically never did anyone much harm. It does,
    however, have all the jobs..

All the way out to the bypass (and soon the other side too). it isn't
particularly ugly, just the usual 'lots of little boxes, all made out of
ticky-tacky'. Even for the 'tourist half' just look round the back of
the famous Feathers facade (from the car park behind) sometime .. some
planner in the 60s or 70s has much to atone for.

Craven Arms though has real 'Railway Town' ugliness. Even the
Supermarket looks like a giant tin shed.

Thats just the latest shortlived local authority, No way is the Wrekin
    outwith Shropshire.

Confusion between uniataries and counties should stick within the BBC
    (They love them....)
