Just been on a training course at work and thought the group may be interested to hear that if public rights of way are blocked or obstructed over farm land etc then the farmer risks some of his subsidy. That only applies if it is found on an inspection by DEFRA officials. The usual PROW council officer will remain the first point of contact for the walking public. But it is a step in the right direction. I did an inspection recently where a farmer had put barbed wire round a stile and handpost, I told him that it was classed as obstruction and he agreed to remove the wire. Although I have not been back to check.

I'm going to put last years uniform issue on ebay. It is well worn and has been at times covered in [censored] (literally) and has various holes where its been snagged on barbed wire obstructing PROWs.

No need ,after 6 years in the job i've never had any injuries other than those caused by my own clumsiness climbing over fences.

As a Public Rights of Way Officer I'm already pointing this out the farmers when enforcing.
