  1. I have lost approximately 70 lbs this year, currently about 185 lbs. I
was well out of shape before, no exercise whatsoever, sedentary job
etc. I haven't, before now, embarked on any kind of exercise program,
but have concentrated on lower level stuff - longer walks, swimming,
playing more actively with the kids.

I need to lose further - for reasons i won't trouble you with, i may
need to go a little underweight before i bring my weight up a little. I
feel fitter, and more energetic, and have joined a gym. I have no
scientific knowledge or background whatsoever, and most of the stuff i
find on the net confuses me. It talks about the difference between
burning carbs and fat. well, i'm a bit short for carbs to burn, as i
    keep them very low indeed.

so, my question is, can anyone recommend a simple exercise plan to go
along with my low carb diet. essentially, i eat nothing but meat, fish,
eggs, hard cheese, and green leaves, and drink stacks of water, and
very weak tea made with a little soya milk. When I "cheat" it is to
drink: i limit beer so far as i can, and try to stick to white wine.
family tradition mandates more of this kind of "cheating" than i would
    like.

I am 43, male, nothing wrong with me apart from being out of shape.

Could anyone suggest a simple exercise programme for me to use, or
provide a pointer as to where i may start to look? nothing too
scientific, please, for this bear of very little brain. My lifestyle
means that I can't be totally regular about the gym. Essentially, i'm
aiming to go three times a week, spread out as much as poss. I don't
want to get into filling in charts and records, etc, just be able to
turn up at the gym, and know what to do, and that what i am doing is
reasonably effective at getting some more fat off. For the moment, that
    is my sole aim.

I would be grateful, if anyone could offer any help.

  2. Go here:

    http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

click on workouts, pick beginner, full body, 3x per week. No fuss, no muss.

Couple that will some walking, swimming, or stationary bike, or whatever you
    like.

Follow your diet (the main thing) and stick to your workout routine.

Oh, don't let the fact that the site is written by a woman bother you...the
workouts are the same no matter if you're a man or a woman. You may need to
spend some time learning the movements and getting your form down, and
finding the right weight range for the various movements. one or two
sessions with a good trainer can aid you in getting form down, or an
advanced training buddy, or a good book.

  3. When I can't get to the gym I have a simple home routine I do. I do three
sets of thirty sit ups, three sets of thiry push ups, and run a mile or do
about 20 minutes on the bike. The whole thing take very little time
relatively speaking (about an hour or less) and I find it's a nice pick me
up when I can't get to the gym.

  4. Do bodyweight exercises, like pushups and pullups.

  5. Thanks for the tips people. Thanks particularly for the reminders that
I don't have to be in the gym to exercise - there's that excuse blown!
