Do you really want your body diverting energy from your workout into digesting a big lump of creatine/protein?
Personally, I find that when I work out on an empty stomach I do much better.

Runners seem to turn in their best times on empty stomachs too. There was a thread on this on Rec.running, and after I thought about it, it was true. I just thought I was running faster to get to the food. ;?)~

hi, i just bought heaps of creatine, whey protein isolate and some BCAA's
i do lots of cycling (riding to and from work and sometimes a long ride on weekends) and try and go to gym 3 times a week.
can someone tell me when i should be taking each of these things? Jas
Somewhere relatively near the gym time is probably best. Some research indicates the before is even better than after, but either is better for what you're probably trying to accomplish than doing it a lot before or a lot after.

Before does not have to mean RIGHT before. Besides taking protein or creatine does not have to mean a 'big lump' of it.

Truly. And anybody whose stomach is so sensitive that they can't work out after some whey protein and creatine, has bigger problems than when to work out.

Well I was eating and going right to the gym. I was not only fatigued but I was getting stomach cramps. Allowing for a little time is probably a good idea.

That was probably from the creatine. Consuming more water helps.

I never eat right before going to the gym... I try to eat my last meal of the night by about 4 am and I get to the gym at 7:30 am. If I eat any later than that. I get ill. :-P

They say that Creatine is of no value for people into endurance sports as Creatine aids to build strength in muscle and not endurance. Although for your 3 x gym workouts a week it could be of benefit. Protein generally is taken on getting up in the morning and before bed. Also 1/2 an hour before a workout. Although there are varying opinions as Im sure someone will tell me otherwise on here.

The BCAAs are best taken shortly after a workout. Protein and creatine before and after workouts, ideally spaced throughout the day.
