  1. I know this is off-topic, but could subscriber please remember that it is
the Bicentennial Trafalgar Day on Friday and endeavour to commemorate this
    great day.

We(and Europe) should remember it as a great victory which contributed to
ridding Europe of a dictator who was intent on domination(and I'm NOT
    talking about [censored]!)

And if you can get to Portsmouth Dockyard soon they are displaying the only
sail of Victory's to survive the battle together with a fantastic video of
what it was like on board during a battle.

After 29 years in the Royal Navy ............ I for one will certainly be
celebrating. Another Naval friend is hosting a Trafalgar 200 Night dinner
for 17 of us in his 3 bed 'end of terrace semi' near Portsmouth. Should be
nice and cosy, with the odd toast or two to the man himself. Might even get
up for a walk on Saturday on the South Downs .... would be fun!

That's *exactly* the same wording that was used on Rocktalk - is this
part of a campaign organised by someone?

Did you here that EU bloke on the radio claiming that Bonaparte just
wanted a united Europe, and only resorted to violence to achieve his
aims because he didn't have a democratic means - such as a European
    Union, for instance...

I suppose so, but I'm busy celebrating the Tories dropping Ken Clarke
again. It was a close shave, and he would have given GB a run for
his money at the next election.

  9. I heard just recently that the French now refer to Waterloo as "Napoleon's
last battle", stressing the greatness of the man, not his total and utter
    defeat.
On a slightly more flipant note, we had a holiday in Paris recently. Going
round the museums and art galleries it is surprising how many pictures of
Bony seem to show him retreating - Moscow, Liebnitz, Salamanca, Waterloo.
Not wishing to be xenophobic, but....

    Like it!

I visited Les Invalides once and noticed that around Nappy's tomb were
inscribed various battles: Austerlitz and others but no mention of Waterloo!

    Wonderful!

    Have you seen this:

The AP and UPI reported that the French Government announced yesterday
that it has raised its terror alert level from level Run to level Hide.
The only two higher levels in France are level Surrender and level
Collaborate. The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed
France's white flag factory, effectively disabling their military.

Am I the only person who thinks Brown might not be the next labour
leader? Everyone assumes there will be a straightforward handover, but
    I rather doubt it.

For some values of "might not". I'd be surprised if there wasn't at
least one other contender, but that's not the same thing as a 50/50
chance of taking it from the Chancellor.
