  1. Forget the last one it went off by its own accord!

I have just received a winter training bike I won on e-bay, a Decathlon 7.1

    http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/ebay.htm

The rear freehub seems to be seized -i.e it won't freewheel at all. At first
    I thought
it was supposed to be a fixed wheel, but my local bike club says there is no
such thing as a 8 speed Sora with a fixed hub, so what do you reckon is
wrong with it and can it be fixed?

    TIA
    Simon

Derailleurs and fixed don't work - if you stopped pedalling, the chain would
get pulled through the rear mech until it jammed in a messy fashion.

The freehub is probably knackered. You can try freeing it - some form of oil
into the innards - or you can just replace it.

    cheers,
    clive

Of course! I didn't realise that, I only know that if I stop pedalling the
chain and rear mech would end up in a tangled mess - it would certainly
    improve your pedalling technique!

Won't be a fixed as it wouldn't work. What you need to do is take off
the cassette and axle, get the right size gert big allen key and remove
the freewheel. Get a new freewheel and screw it back in place, replace
axle and cassette. You might get away with a jet of WD40 through the
works but a new one is not expensive and will give you peace of mind.

Changing a freehub body is neither difficult or *very* expensive. You'll
need to remove the cassette, QR and axle. With a 10mm allen key you can
undo the hollow bolt retaining the freehub body and it *should* fall
off. Fitting new is the reverse. Sheldon Brown has pictures.

It doesn't take much for a bike equipped with derailleurs so seem like
the freehub's broken. It may well just be a bit stiff from old grease
and such, the lower end shimano hubs don't freewheel particularly freely
at the best of times. I'd suggest taking the wheel off and turning the
block backwards by hand while dripping some light oil in round the seal.
I'd not be too surprised if it frees up fine.

If this doesn't work then get new freehub body. If you don't already
have most of the tools [chain whip, lockring tool, 10mm allen key,
grease, cone spanners] then it would be cheaper to have your LBS do it.
