I certainly remember trying to decide whether to get a tourer or one of those new fangle 'adult bmx' bikes in 1987, the Muddy Fox wasn't the only model on the marked. I bought a tourer which I still have and I have had, and disposed of, two mountain bikes since.

I had that decision to make in 1986. There was a mountain bike shop on New Cavendish St near where I worked (now the Cycle Centre), and it seemed to sell little else but Muddy Foxes.
I ended up with an FW Evans grand tourer instead, from the shop in The Cut, which I still have and use almost every day (alternating with the Brompton).

Cycle Logical, IIRC. I still have a screwdriver I bought there in 1987 :-)
I bought my Rockhopper (from Bike UK in Charing Cross) in 1986; the first locally-bought MTB I ever encountered was a Ritchey, in 1983.

Still got my 1988 23" Muddy Fox Courier complete with its mud gathering U brake and Suntour thunbshifters. None of your fancy suspension either!!! A great runaroound 'til this day! __ Stuart

I expect I would still have the Big Red Roockhooper had not some passing pikey liberated it from outside the Ship & Blue Ball in Hoxton in 1990.
