Hi all,
I am a healthy 50 yr.old female with an energy deficit problem. I eat well,
no refined carbs or any sugar, or junk food at all. I dont drink but once in
a great while. I exercise 2-3 times per week. My only vice is coffee. I
drink about 4 cups per day. I also have a low blood sugar problem, which is
why I eat well. I know it's a dumb question, but do I have to give up my
only pleasure in life? Could it just be I"m getting older. Does energy fade

That's a bit too much coffee, but I know people that drink even more so
I doubt that is your problem. ;-)How much sleep do you get?
Are you on any kind of routine?

in your 50;sIf you have hypoglycemia, you may well be insulin resistant or
hyperinsulinemic. Low energy levels are a common consequence. When you say "eating well" what do you mean, if you don't mind the question?
I ask because I used to think I was "eating well" when I became
increasingly hypoglycemic, too. Turned out I had it all wrong, by
following the popular dietary dogma.Susan

older. Does energy fade in your 50;s15+ years of complaining of always being tired and also complaints of
occasional chest pain (less than 1 on a scale of 0-10 but still there) and
all I got from numerous doctors was that nothing was wrong with me, that it
was all in my head. Antidepresants for anxiety over it was their solution.A heart attack in my mid 40's found that my coronary arteries were 98%
blocked. I got four stents since I didn't have insurance and two more
stents would have been put in but they couldn't place them (they estimated
that the medical bill for the bypass would be about $250,000 so I went with
the stents - two seperate days - for a $90,000 bill instead). One main
artery remains 98% blocked - they couldn't get a stent in - but a
collateral opened up substantially. In any case, suddenly I had tons of energy - those arteries were blocked up
before I turned 30. I had insurance my whole life until the two years
before the heart attack. As for eating, I've never smoked, drank alcohol, did illegal drugs, etc and
ate reasonably well - better than most people I knew. I used to take the
10 flights of stairs at work and used the stairs instead of elevators as
one way of getting exercise (I used to rush up the stairs actually to get a
good pulse rate.)If your problem is obvious to a doctor, chances are it will never be found
unless your push and press and research and insist.--

It's likely the thyroid. Go to http://www.efn.org/~raypeat/ He's the
true expert on women around your age with such problems. In short, you
need to stop consuming foods high in unsaturated fatty acids, start
using fresh coconut oil or organic butter, etc. You should probably
supplment with pregnenolone too, along with a few other basic things
(magnesium citrate, for example).Good luck.

thanks for your responses
I hate taking handfuls of pills...but I do take a triple strength
glucosamine and chondroitin (2 in am),a regular multiple vitamin tablet, and
I take sporadically fish oil, and calcium.
I sleep well, with medication...history of pstd. been on clonopin for many
yr.s. And I do have a good routine, except that I get up 5:30 on work days,
and 8 on days off. I work 3 days/wk as nurse.

I am facinated with your knowledge about nutrition. I just had a thyroid
workup, montygram, and will soon get the results. I am a but hyperthyroid,
witha low tsh.
And eating saturated fats, aren't we supposed to not eat them? What is
pregnenolone, and why do you suggest magnesium citrate. Thanks for your
knowledge into my problem.

Hyperthyroidism is not the same as hyperthyroidism. In Monty's world it does
not make any difference as the same answer to any disease, coconut oil.

Try trading the calcium nervous system irritant for some magnesium and report

Magnesium will raise your body pH and soften calcium deposits harden as plaque
in your blood vessels.
YOu will know within a week or so, if it is the right thing to do. Your bones
have a major magnesium content and magnesium is what makes them strong. Your
muscles relax by magnesium levels and contract by calcium levels."scullycat" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Robert thinks he is very clever, but he is unable to think outside the
current establishment box. Listen to him at your peril. Oxidative
stress has been shown to induce both hypo and hyper thyroidism. As I
said, you should read some of biochemist Ray Peat's essays on this
subject. "Saturated fat" has been shown to be "bad" in that beef and
pork, which are slightly higher in saturated fatty acids, are more
problematic than white fish and chicken. They don't tell you that this
is what they actually found, but instead use misleading phrases that
they don't even define in a precise way. Asians on coconut based diet
have little "chronic disease," but they never even admit the
demogrpahic reality (with the exception of a few scientists who were
interested in the phenomenon and did a real experiment, rather than
statisitcal compilations based upon flawed intitial assumptions and
terms that are not defined - I've posted those studies here many
times). You can read Bruce Fife's book "Saturated fat may save your life" for
more information. There's also the web site, www.ithyroid.com I think
you'll get the specific information you need from there. If it's
helpful, why don't you post back here for those who are interested.Good luck.

And you suggested a thyroid supplement when she is has an overactive
thyroid. That is very cleaver as even the OP noticed that it was a stupid
thing to do. Good work recommending pregnenolone which would have killed her
and you my friend can not think outside your coconut. -
thanks so much...I will look intoo it all.

plus a pile of coke and Mountain Dew during the events. Anecdotal but
don't blame simple age or the caffeine unless there is something else
going on specifically with your system. Get to the doc and have some
blood work done, could be something at simple as low iron.-DD

Did you notice that you told us what you don't eat? How about telling
us what you do eat. It is easy to not eat what you think is junk but
still eat lots of [censored] that still is junk. There is more to nutrition than not eating [censored]. The rest of what you
eat has to be fresh healthy nutrient-dense foods.TC
