Okay.... we are all set for Thanksgiving. We had been hoping to have people here for dinner, but it didn't turn out that way. The usual cast of characters could not make it. We have been invited to the home of m sister in law's stepdaughter. Other than the two hour drive each way, that should be a winner. She loves to entertain in a big way and always puts on a great spread.
We cancelled our order for a fresh turkey. I already picked up some fresh cranberries and some pumpkin, so I went ahead and made the cranberry sauce and a pumkpin pie to take with us. It promises to be a busy day. I have a riding lesson on the morning. By the time I get the tack cleaned, come home and get cleaned up it will be time to jump in the car and battle with traffic. We are an hour away from a large city, and she lives almost an hour past it, so that may mean dealing with a lot of heavy traffic in between.
Our neighbours to the south should bump their Thanksgiving up a month :-)

I get them impression that it is a much bigger affair in the US than here in Canada, though my wife always does it up right. She does the the harvest decorations all over the house, the front porch, the works. I usually cook the dinner.... roast turkey with stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, squash and various other veggies, and of course, pumpkin pie.
This will be the first time in more than 20 years that we have not done it at our house. My new niece's home is designed for large gatherings and she loves to entertain. I will just have to be careful not to fulfil the role of the drunken uncle :-)

I can sorta see the postings--some people are happiest (or function best) with well-laid plans. I do object to: Hallowe'en stuff all over the stores *before* Labor Day weekend. Christmas stuff all over before September ends.
I don't really want to have my Grinch season extended to 3 months.

Chocolate filled Advent Calendars (or "Countdown to Christmas" calendars as some were labelled) were on sale in the supermarket I shop in before the end of September. Christmas decorations are now on sale. Saw a piece in a column in the newspaper about Advent calendars being on sale with use by dates in November!!!

Last year Christmas was right up on top of me before I noticed it! Which is not a good thing for me; I love the whole extrended season and all the commercialism that everyone else hates.

An hour ago we ordered Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show tickets for a family outing through Ticketmaster and forgot someone! We had to call again and buy a single ticket which will be in another part of the theater (oops).

Sucks, doesn't it? Not only does it encourage whining demands from brats to start earlier in the year and go on for longer, it makes it harder to find some of the every-day things you want when you are shopping, the shelves being over-filled with bright and shiny [censored]. Plus that [censored], gawds awful, xmasy *noise* starts getting blasted at you from all directions while you shop. I could cope with that for maybe a month, but for 3+? Hell... I have nothing against xmas, but it is NOT and excuse, in fact there's never any excuse for [censored], poorly arranged throw away music, especially when you can't bloody escape it! Heheheh...

Honestly, I was talking to some co-workers my first week and said, "Do they always play the same bad muzak over and over?" and the person said, "Oh, you just wait until the day after thanksgiving!"
(My response was "Then thanksgiving may be my last day here," and I wasn't far off. The 18th will be my last day.)
