Does anyone have any good suggestions for a manufacturer of custom overtrousers? Being overtall and underfat means that it's hard to get a decent fit (typical XL or XXL are simultaneously too short and feel like tents). Slioch would be an obvious choice but they only use rather heavy goretex which they agree is a poor choice for most users. Being as much a cyclist as walker, a lighter fabric would be preferable.
I currently have a pertex pair which are rather old and very porous (and I might have just lost them anyway). My wife just found a nice pair labelled "Goretex XCR" which seems lighter and I've vaguely heard of "Paclite". OTOH I find pertex to be pretty good - in really cold weather the windproofness is what matters, and getting slightly damp in rain is rarely a problem.

Mardale ran up a standard size in a custom colour of Pertex jacket for me, and in the past they did a custom pullover for a 6'8" friend of mine, so might be worth talking to them. They do a specific bike range.

Yes - where's Bill Grey when you need him? I'm fairly sure he had a pair made for himself either last year or the year before and he was very pleased with them. I doubt they were cheap, but then you wouldn't expect them to be, but apparently they were extremely good. OTOH, if you know someone who's handy with a needle and thread, there are places from which the fabric can be bought. Have a look at Pennine Outdoor, for example: http://tinyurl.com/cunzr -- To reply see 'from' in headers; lose the domain, and insert dots and @ where common sense dictates.

When my son was small and we were into rambling, I couldn't get decent breathable stuff in sizes for small kids. So I got some fabric from either Pennine Outdoor or Point North, can't remember which of the two, and made him some breathable waterproof overtrousers, using a pattern for basic elasticated waist trousers. The only bit that was a PITA to do was taping the seams.

Slioch.
Brilliant service. Excellent bit of kit and they double check if they think you've given dodgy measurements. The personal touch can't be beat!
My overtrousers are great and are made of Gortex Taslan. The very generous side zips make getting the trousers on over boots is a doddle. braces are an optional extra and well worth the extra.
