  1. Hi all.

I am new to road cycling but have been road cycling for about 3mths on a old rusty piece of s**t (been mtn biking for many years), so its time to upgrade. I am tossing up between two bikes at the moment:

    Felt F70 - feltracing.com2005 f70.html = $1599AUD
    Gitane Mach 1800 - gitane.com.au2005mach1800.html = $1590AUD

    Both from different LBS.

Could I please get all your reasoned opinions on the best bet of these two. I know Felt is quite popular with everyone but some reasoned responses/comparisons would be appreciated.

    Thanks

P.S. I am planning on doing some riding in the Victorian (Australia) High Country, so I do I need a triple?

  2. Take them both out for test rides. The components are pretty much identical. I don't know if there's a difference in frame geometry. You may or may not notice a difference in ride quality with the carbon seat stays on the Felt.

I bought an F70 early this year and I love it. Can't comment on the Gitane.
If you're thinking of riding anything with hills, unless you're a own a pair of monster calves, get the triple.

Both bikes are comparable in components but the F70 frame is superior. It's the $2500.00 F35 frame painted yellow and with less expensive components. The Felt is a fast bike, stiff frame, every bit of power goes to the rear wheel. The carbon seat stays will make the rides a little smoother, the Gitane does not have CSS..... Ride both bikes, you will feel the difference. My money is on the Felt.

Oh, one other thing. If you buy the Felt, have them upgrade you pedals. The Wellgo pedals blow.
