Custom Hyperglide Cassettes

Well, Sheldon does offer custom cassettes.Shimano made HG cassettes with a 14 first cog. So all you need is that and the rest of the loose cogs and spacers you need, and do it yourself. www.loosescrews.com has lots of old cassettes and loose cogs.

I realise cassettes are cheaper than cranks, but have you considered smaller chainrings?

Funny you should ask that. Yes, I added a 48 (replacing the standard 53) earlier this week (found a remnant RSX ring). My small chainring is a 39 - and paired with the 28 rear, I can climb just about any hill around my area. The range of 14 to 28 is to give me more choices on undulating terrain. I'm a 100+ cadence guy. Thanks for the response.

In 8 speed, 13-26 or 13-30 seems to be it.

You could consider 36/48 or go for a triple on the front, Sugino 28/38/48 8 speed cranksets are quite reasonable.

I use a high cadence also and
13-23 rear, 30/42/52 for 700c
12-25 rear, 30/42/52 for 650c,
however, all 9 speed.

My local bike shop was having diffculty locating a 36 or 34 chainring. I got tired of waiting. My plan is to ride for at least another 6 months on my current bike. Eventually I will get a newer model with either a compact double or triple and a rear cassette to my exact liking. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Try Harris Cyclery for 8 speed chainrings, check BCD, 130 or 110?

as the sprockets are all the same width ( it´s the spacers that vary ) you should be able to mix and match from any S type 7/8/9 speed cassette as long as they´re not the " better " models that use spiders .
we´re lucky here , LBS has a board on the wall with every thing you´d need to mod your cassette including 13 and 14 cog bottom gears .
Spain´s a long way away but I´ll try and post Dani´s website / e-mail if I can get it .

as a final resort you could get a single sprocket sent from here - it´ll cost more in postage than the sprocket will ( they´re under 6€ ) but it is a final possibility if all else fails .

do Miche sell cassettes in the US , could be an economic option .

That should not be an issue even for a nose picker,assuming your crank BCD will accomodate one. If your crank is 130 or 135 or 144 your are wasting your time. If it's a 110 it's a no brainer...Ever considered doing something for yourself and cutting the nose pickers and morons out of the loop? Can make life alot easier.

Well actually they aren't,but in the real world the difference is so small as to possibly not matter.
