  1. Does anyone know whether Schwinn Spinners (or knock-offs) are used by serious professions as
    supplemental training tools? Actually, given those 38-pound flywheels, I can't think why they
    wouldn't be used, at the very least, for certain types of heavy-load strength training.

    The load depends on the friction applied by the rider. If you spin a flywheel with no resistance,
    you end up doing little work. (And it's probably not good for your body. All the indoor cycling
    instructor certification systems I know of "prohibit" it.)

    In my experience, it's really hard to duplicate an actual outdoor ride on one of those, but they're
    good if you can't/won't make it outside.

    I have no idea whether any of the pros use them, but they'd probably be useful for off-season
    maintenance.
