Howdy,
Currently I am at a certain level of fitness. If I wanted to quantify it I’d say 1 = maximum level of fitness within my genetic capabilities and I’ll say that 0.1 is my current level of fitness within my genetic capabilities. So currently I’m at 10%(probably much greater) of what my body is physically capable of.
Now… I would obviously love to get to “1” to see at what type of racing level “1” is at. My problem is that I am confused on how to get to “1”.
When I train I go out and ride hard. I pedal until I cannot/do not want to take the pain anymore. When I train I do not take a lot of pain because I'm only in my first year and the guy I ride with has been riding for 20 years and he says that I'm a [censored]. I do not have a heart rate monitor, but I can’t be too much over my optimal heart rate for training when I’m riding. I should restate the way I train. When I’m on a flat I go at what I feel is a good pace and continue at it for the length of the flat. When I get to a hill is when I pedal until I cannot/do not want to take the pain anymore and then I slow down. Like I said, I don’t take a lot of pain when I train.
So now that you know how I train, the question still remains, how to get to “1”.
I don’t have a great comprehension of the body. Do I continue to train the way I train for 5 or 6 days a week until my improvements do not improve anymore (thus reaching “1”).
Or do I have current physical limits of my leg muscles? Say my current physical limit is 0.5. I could go out and do well-paced rides for life, but only get to 0.5 (peaking?) Would I then have to work on different attributes of my riding during the offseason (climbing, acceleration, intervals, etc.) to increase my physical limits and then go out and do well-paced rides during the racing season to achieve my new possible physical limit created by my “attribute training” during the offseason. This process would then be repeated year after year until reaching "1".
So which is it. Option 1 or 2 or a combination of 1 or 2 or an Option I can’t even think about?
Thanks!
