Cantilever to V-Brake...what's involved?

Any reason for changing your brakes? Noticed I did not say 'upgrade'?

Cantilevers can be adjusted to brake about as well as V-brakes can and the cost is next to nothing compared to buying an entirely new braking system for your bike. Check out the Tech section on Ritchey's website for cantilever adjustments (www.ritcheylogic.com).

If you just have to have V-brakes then it should be a simple matter of just swapping the brakes and levers then adjusting everything to work correctly. I would upgrade the brake cables while you have the brakes completely apart. V-brakes use brake levers that pull more cable than cantilever brake levers for the same amount of throw so you will have to replace them as well.

yep.. fairly simple, as PCC mentioned you'll need new levers (unless they have a leverage adjustment on them like the old DX or LX simano levers). which will end up pretty expensive if the levers are part of the shifter.

then get some inner and outer cable, a brakepipe (usually comes with the brakes) for each and the 'V' brakes will mount straight on the bosses.

V brakes are easier to adjust but depending on what sortof brakes and levers the canti's are if you take a bit of time to get them right they will work just as well as the V brakes.
