  1. I've read the thread Moorland landscape above Weardale/Teesdale (or at least
most of it) and the mention of Adders has caught my attention. I walk about
the North East fells/hills nearly everyday for my job and have just realised
that this year I have not seen a single Adder. Last year I came across 8 on
my wanderings, 3 of which were on the fells around Sundaysight farm, NY817
    889. I got back to the car and was chatting with the farmer who said that
one of his ewes was bitten by an adder earlier that week and that the adders
were a problem that year. In all my wonderings this year I have not seen a
single one, this could be because I was not looking in the right place at
    the right time.

I am employed and volunteer for the North York Moors N.P. strangely you
should say that. This year I have only seen one Adder, this period last rear
I had seen eight six in one day! This was on the side of the old iron stone
railway close to Blowarth Crossing and along towards the Lion Inn at Blakey

Best time to spot them I believe to be mid summer on a calm sunny morning,
they can be spotted warming their bodies in the early morning sunshine.
