I was called a masochistic today for detouring our small group of
riders to a very hilly section of our ride. I forced them to keep up
or at least try to. I thought that comment was a complement and
motivated me to work even harder, which was bad news for them...
anyone ever been called that?

Masochistic:
pleasure in being abused or dominated : a taste for suffering
So Dumbass, I mean Bob what do you have to say for yourself...

Dumbass,
If you were pleasing yourself in dishing out suffering that
makes you a sadist not a masochist. If you were just coming
here to boast about dropping people on hills that makes
you neither. On the other hand, to bring this back to your thread
about trainers, power and 20 mile rides:Riding with groups of people slower than you isn't going to
make you faster or stronger. Riding with groups faster than
you will do that. It also provides a useful ego-leveling
experience. -

And based on my limited experience, when someone tells me a route and
then changes it to a much harder one..... that makes them a jerk.I wouldn't pick a ride that was easy unless I wanted an easy ride. So
maybe I'm already playing masochist to myself. I don't need someone to
remind me that I'm not as good as they are. Then, if I found out that they came to RBR to spout off about it I
would wait until they were having a bad day or on a recovery ride,
base miles, etc... and I would play sadist, trying to drop his ass at
all costs. -

for myself. If I want it harder, I'll make it harder. They
understand everyone's riding for themselves. If they didn't follow, I
could care less - I would continue on with my route.Quoted message said:

You've never been on a ride with a leader, and you've never been the
leader of a ride. -

Oh, that's surely true -- but I'm thinkin' it wouldn't be too hard.
It'd've been more convincing if you hadn't already told us your weight and

That is all. Although I admit we have a long tradition of winners
