  1. "Boston's dance community honored two of its own last week with
    performances, parties, and testimonials.

On Thursday night at the Sanctuary Theater in Harvard Square,

Iris Fanger received the 2005 Dance Champion award
    from the Boston Dance Alliance.

Fanger, a long-time journalist, lecturer, and dance historian, ran the
Harvard Summer Dance Center for 18 years, and she's curated
exhibitions for the Harvard Theater Collection and several art museums.
She writes on dance and theater for the Patriot Ledger and the Phoenix.

Fanger's varied career has focused on educating dancers
    and dance audiences."

    "Their thrilling dances
    Then gave me a sharp
Pang of yearning to get a closer
View of things immeasurable and unattainable,
Such as no poem of Heine's,
    No prose of Poe's,
No fever dream has ever given me,
And, since, I have had the same
    Sensation, at once sub ~
Conscious and acute, which I attribute
To the silent nebulous precision of all they do."

    "In the celebration dance,
The sense of enclosure is broken
    Entirely
As the new queen presides over a prancing,
    Running processional along ramps
    And a platform
At the back of the stage.
    Two at a time,
    The workers tumble down
To the front, each pair exploding
    With a different
    Movement ~ rolling, jumping,
    Falling,
    Swinging ..."
