3 times a week, but we both have busy jobs with irregular working
hours. We made some progress though.
I started running back in April. Had just turned forty and didn't have
enough money to buy a convertable, so I decided I would run a marathon
to mark this rolling of the chronometer. Everything I read after
making that decision said you should run for at least a year before
starting training; so I've set my sites on the 2006 Marine Corps
Marathon (it's local to me and flat, so it's a really good choice for
me.)
Quoted message said:Over the Summer, too much work and travel got in the way, and I did not
run for 6 weeks. Then at then end of July, I started again, and now I'm
everyother day: 3x 10 minutes with 2 minutes walk in between. I walk
for warm up and cool down.
I was forced to take a few weeks off in July due to an appendectomy. I
am also an every other day runner; my wife takes the others. I also
walk for warm-up and cool-down.
Quoted message said:I just wanted to get fit(ter), I certainly would not complain if I lost
some weight, but so far that did not happen. What did happen though, is
that I dropped a pant size.
I did lose weight by controlling diet during the first four months of
running; but have since stabilized. The biggest advantage, though, has
been a reduction of my blood pressure.
Quoted message said:Just 3 weeks ago (during a visit to the US) I got a pair of Asics
Kayano, which I love, and apart from stepping of the curb wrong during
cool down yesterday and twisting my ankle (auch), I have not had any
problems with running so far - that is apart from getting out there and
doing it, but I'm getting better with that one too.
Quoted message said:What are your tactics for the times when you just can't be bothered? I
run in the mornings (as I never know when I get to leave work), and
just sometimes, bed seems a better option :-)
I have a hard time just exercising for its own sake. I find having a
goal helps get me out of bed (I set my alarm for 0430.) Since the
long term goal is so far out, I add a race about once a month. I've
done two 5Ks and plan on doing a 10K in December. I'll probably add
a 5mile and maybe another 5K or so in the interim. Probably a 10miler
and/or a half marathon in the early Spring. I find adding the odd
race helps greatly with the motivation in the AM.
