  1. Well my new pedals, cleats and shoes came in today, I was messing
around with them off the bike first and they seem pretty easy to clip
in and out of. Then I put them on the bike and put one of the shoes on
and tried it, it seems simple enough even for a novice like me. I
haven't gotten to ride yet, still getting some of the showers and stuff
from Rita here on the west coast of Florida. I think for my first rides
I will just take it easy on some of the side roads here in my
    neighborhood.

I've been using my new Look PP247 pedals for the last three rides.
Already today I felt like I could almost clip in without even looking
    down.

    Awesome.

I really like 'em. Good float. Solid feel. Highly recommended!

  3. Let me suggest that you begin your clipless pedal experience in a
lightly travelled environment. Most of us have had the experience of
forgetting that our foot was attached to the pedal when we came to a
stop. It's best not to have an audience around when you do that
    Laugh-In pratfall.

You will like the Look system. I have enjoyed mine for years.

  4. Plus, a good skill to learn is single-leg pedaling. Not only is it
good for training the hip flexors and smoothing out your pedal stroke,
but when you're still learning how to clip in after a stop light, you
can at least get across an intersection if you fail to get your foot
    clipped in right away.

  5. Congrats. I remember when I got my first "clipless" pedals. Looks, of
course, they were the only ones made then.

Yes, it it much easier than messing around with clips and straps, but,
as you mentiuonmed being a novice, I would strongly recommend finding an
"expert" to get the cleats mounted corectly, or you are in for a lot of
    knee trouble. Thrust me.

If yoiu have a good LBS, that would be a place to start.

Geez, I installed and adjusted both sets of clipless pedals that I
own, all by myself, with no knee problems. That means one of two
things, either I'm an expert or your above statement isn't true.

A bit of research, some common sense, and a little trial & error, is
    really all it should take.

Funny that, my knee problems disappeared as soon as I started using clipless
and I didn't have an expert to get it right. It is, indeed, important to
have the cleats positioned correctly, but you don't have to be an 'expert'
    to do this.

AH yes, I did a little ride just a couple of miles around the
neighborhood today, all side roads, made a whole bunch of stops to
practice, seems pretty simple, no falls.

Yeah not knowing anything about the different systems I think the looks
    are okay.

I hope you do a serious and long ride at home before you starting touring
with your new pedals/shoes. Just to make sure you get in a real shake down.
    When is your tour?

Well I planned on leaving on the tour on October 3rd, and of course I
am going to do a shake down run. Probably do one this weekend just to
check for kinks in my setup.
