Yo Big Tex
Lance Armstrong couldn't make it to the EICMA show this year, but his
seven Tour de France wins were heavily featured in Trek's always packed
booth. Trek importer Phil Edwards told Cyclingnews that "With a Trek
winning the Tour once again with Lance and for the first time ever, an
American bike has won the Giro d'Italia, so there is a huge demand for
Trek's high end road bikes even in Italy!"
Trek's fortunes might change with a mountain stage win by Ivan Basso
and his Cervelo -- a Canadian bike maker based in Montreal, Quebec not
too far from Guru bikes. Cervelo is basically king of the mountain in
the triathlon and TT arena.
But wait, some Trek dealers would love to enlighten people not to buy
Cervelos because they have shorter chainstays and they wear faster blah
blah blah!
Wake up folks.. Tours are won by riders, 7 of them by Lance and not by
machines. Whether you ride a Trek, Cannondale, Cervelo, Guru or even
Litespeed -- it doesn't really matter. In fact, Lance rode a Litespeed
Blade painted in USPS banner in his earlier TT events on earlier tours.
Little do anyone here know that, some TDF riders ride with a different
make bike than that sponsored by their team!! Some riders ride
Litespeeds or Cervelos or whatever painted over with either their
European or North American team and bike maker logos. You simply can't
be sure. The reason for this I suspect is probably "FIT"! Yes, fit is
very important and Lance doesn't take this very lightly. He insists
upon it and that's why, his bikes are all the same fit, so he can
exercise his infamous turbo power mashing on the TT or on the Alps..
The motto is always simple. Buy a bike that fits you right. Don't buy
a bike simply because you're afraid your chain and cassette are
guaranteed to wear down quicker than a Trek or a Cannondale. There's
one guarantee nothing will wear down much at all and that is a poorly
fitted bike and you're not riding at all.
David..
