More like Vuelta wimp. A stud is someone who leaves it all out on the road.
If we are to believe Danielson's own words, he was riding conservatively the
whole time (except when he "cracked"😉.

Considering he had to drop out of the Giro with a knee problem, I think his
major goal was to actually make it to Madrid.

Riding somewhat conservatively helped ensure this, and he still got a high
placing. Now he knows what a full 3-week Tour is like, he can start
concentating on racing one next year.

I agree- good conservative strategy. I have no problems with that. But
"Vuelta Stud" doesn't apply. Vuelta stud is when Heras lays it all on the
line on a wet descent so that his rivals aren't willing to take the same
risks and gains enough time on them to catch up to his ride waiting below.

Lot's better than I could do. And lots better than almost everyone else
in the Vuelta could do. Most folks would rate 8th in a second try at a
grand tour as pretty good.

Exactly. I'm not saying he didn't have a good race, but Vuelta stud
is a bit far fetched.

I like how everyone keeps saying Danielson is young, wait until next
year.

Bear in mind, next year, the "youngster" is going to be 28.

Time keeps on ticking folks. If he's going to do something big, it
had better be soon.

Levi was a Vuelta stud, and look where he is now. He can out box
Odessa, but that ain't saying much.

Gee, I think anyone who finishes a Grand Tour is a stud. Let alone
someone who actually does well. Think of all the fine riders who didn't
finish.

You guys are tough on giving out the accolades.

Again, not saying he didn't have a good race, or that finishing in
the top 10 is a "bad" result, but he's not a Vuelta stud as the
original poster suggested. Hell, who even remembers who finishes
second let alone 8th place in a race not many people in America even
know about.
