  1. Hello, I am pretty new to cycling and this forum. I just started about 2.5 months ago and have a Trek 2200. My current workouts are 13 mile rides 4 X a week and one 35 mile ride on the weekend. On the shorter rides I average around 19.5 mph, and the long rides I am at about 18.6 mph. What books are good for training techniques and regimes? Also, how fast should I expect progress to come? I figured by now I have a decent base to work off of but want to get more serious and structured about it despite having somewhat limited time to go about it.

  2. HI Jay,

Sounds like you are doing very well based on your rides per week and your average speeds. Darn good for someone new to cycling. Way to go.
THere are a lot of publications out there with training plans from the very generic to the incredibly specific. Nearly any structured workout will give you results and improvement, but you might want to sit down and write down your cycling goals, both long term and short term. A specific event, race, or charity ride would be a good start. This will give you a focus and make it easier to work out a strategy toward improvement. Do you want to train for distance, speed, conquering hills, century rides? The more specific your goals, the easier it will be to design a path to get you to them. 🙂
