Dear All,
I have an ageing bike whose front brake I would upgrade. So I am looking
for an old part here. The specification is a double-pivoted side pull with a
drop of approx 52mm and which has a bolt attaching it to the front fork of
at least 80mm. This front fork cannot accomodate recessed bolts.

Any reason you don't want to drill out the back of that fork so a
recessed bolt will fit? -

"double-pivoted side pull"...you mean a centre-pull? PMI, but I thought
sidepull calipers had a single pivot point...Is is a side pull or a centre-pull? Got pictures? FYI, I have older-style
Dia-Compe calipers in both centre and side pull variations. -

Bike shop suggested that but I don't like the idea of weakening the fork

The first three pictures are of dual-pivot side pulls. The next two
are of single pivot side pulls, although those particular ones look a
bit cheesy to me.Dual pivots have higher mechanical advantage, other things being equal.
Of course, that means they have less pad travel. They have more
straightforward centering adjustment than most single pivot side pulls.Almost all modern side pulls are dual pivot, for better or worse.

Sorry I thought I had posted to the group but the posts seem to have got
lost. It is definitely a single pivot side pull and I would like to upgrade
to a double pivot side pull. My bike shop has suggested drilling holes into
the fork but I am concerned about weakling the fork.

"Double pivoted sidepull" sounds to me like an apt description of a dual
pivot sidepull brake. This is hardly old. there are different makes and
models of these. If they all have "recessed" bolts, just ream (drill is
the wrong word in this case) the hole that this "bolt" fits to the size
it will.This is waht I did for the Universal CX's I put on my Lygie and later my
Rossin. way back then- -

If you have a double-pivot side pull with a suitable drop and longer bolt to
allow me to fit them to the front fork without drilling I would be
interested in buying them. Do you live in the UK?
