Slightly surprised that someone with your experience should need to look
up unicycle in the OED. ;-)
But thanks anyway, I love the word "unidea'd". A good read is the
OED, although I do struggle a bit with the storyline. I suspect you may
now have revealed part of the plot to me.

i recently had the most horrible dictionary experience

the exact memory is hazy
it was traumatic

can anyone suggest a good fall-back dictionary for a fallen ex-collins
man?

The American Heritage Dictionary is use-agnostic on the matter and even
alludes to wheel walking:

Unicycle:
NOUN: A vehicle consisting of a frame mounted over a single wheel and
usually propelled by pedals.

I may not always be as skilled as #1, but then I'm covered in #2

On short notice, my viewpoint will change from looking down to looking
up in response to the fact that my unicycle's location relative to my
boohiney has changed.

The "especially as used by acrobats" bit is incorrect in my view, as
there is no difference between a unicycle being used by an acrobat and a
unicycle in any other situation.
