  1. Hello All
I have a question about bicycle lanes. That is a clearly defined lane,
(cycle pictures on the road in the lane) that is part of the road. The lanes
that I am interested in are in a built up area of a large country town in
    NSW.
I would like to know if cars are legally able to park in these lanes. It
must be said that there are no signs prohibiting cars from parking in the
    lanes.
I did ask at the local police station but they could not tell me yes or no.
They did try to contact Highway Patrol but they were busy.
    Anyone with the knowledge?
    Joseph

Cars can park in bike lanes as long as there are no signs prohibiting it. If
the lane is heavily used and on a busy road lobby your local council to
    change their traffic management strategy.

Gosh you do have competent coppers in NSW. Great to see such community
    service :-}

To further clarify this - if it's just a painted line n the ground with
logos painted in it, then it's not actually a bicycle lane.
To be a bicycle lane (and not have cars parked in it) it MUST have the
"BICYCLE LANE" sign. If the sign has times associated with it then those
are the times parking is banned. If there is no time plate attached, then
parking is banned all the time.
The required sign (to make it a bicycle lane) is a rectangular white sign,
    black boarder, black writing.

ROFL, welcome to your bicycle budget tax dollars at work. Your council
probably had that lane marking funded out of the state bicycle fund
instead out of the normal road funds. Means SFA.

Slightly different rules again. In Qld it does in fact denote a bike
lane and vehicles should not be able to park on it. The signs are
generally restricted to off road use. Near strip shopping, for example,
it should be marked out between the parking lane and the first traffic
lane. If they want to allow parking on the shoulders then the cycle
marking can not be used. Of course this doesn't stop people from
opening car doors across it or swerving in front of you to get to the
    bay.

Councils have a habit of mucking this up though and simply adding a
white line to the side of a road with the cycle markings in surburban
    areas.

It is also significant in Qld because if there is a marked cycle lane
you are not entitled to be in the traffic lanes (unless turning of
    course).
