Waiting time for a Brompton

After placing the order I heard it might be 6 weeks! Unfortunately it's just
a bottle dynamo, but I may be able to justify a new front wheel for autumn
next year. As it is it'll take about 5 months to recover the cost of the
bike based on my fuel savings and the cost of buses.

Bought mine off the shelf from Warlands Oxford. Of course in those days
it was a standard Black L3 with reduced gearing. Gear reductions are
handled by the dealers. Don't know about the other additions.

Non-standard colours may take longer. Lifted a new titanium two-speed
at the weekend in lime green. Not my colour and not really as light as
I'd hoped. The laquered T6 showing braze was however a real looker.

Although you will have to subtract some extra costs from those savings;
after all Amount of Biking is directly proportional to Amount Of Cake
And Beer consumed.

This was a few days after the London bombs...

Black and Silver is now the default colour scheme, anything else costs £25
extra. The T6 is no more, it is now the M6R-PLUS. Mine is basically an M6R
Plus, with added bar ends, a front bag, rear stand light and the 12%
reduction (and no rear rack).

The Kinetics web site is the first I've seen with the new models and
allowing you to specify an 'a la carte' Brompton. Which is why I've ordered
from Ben.

Did I say I'm getting a T3 😉. I am also led to believe that it has
certain magical folding and unfolding properties imparted by the
Bromptonite it's made from, I can't confirm this yet though...

I for one am looking forward to donning my finest smug git face and
singing "I am folding" to Rod Stewarts "I am sailing" whilst passing
merely content bicycle commuters on my way to work.

Point was that if it isn't pretty much vanilla then you won't get it
from stock and if nobody has just what you want and you stick to your
guns about what you want, you won't get it the next day. Unless perhaps
you know Mr. Brompton and/or bribe him very well :-(

There is a review of two different bromptons in the latest Velovision.
They get a bit uppity about the quality of the brake and gear levers
for a 1000GBP bike but are otherwise quite complimentary.

On the one hand a fair comment but on the other my bike stops okay
and the gears change okay. I bought mine (ca. £700 with all the
bits) for its convenience, and money well spent for that. Though I
wouldn't /complain/ if the brakes were a bit better, even if for a
bit more money.
