What nutrients..?

  1. Given the following clues, do you have any ideas what nutrients this person
    is talking about?

    - Substances [A] and [B] are both present in food, but no longer in
    sufficient quantities in modern feeding habits.

    - [A] occurs already in primal bacteria and is essential for cellular energy
    transport. If you are too short on [A] you have no energy, therefore
    fatigue.

    - [A] & [B] together form [C]. [A], [B] & [C] are essential for the immune
    system.

    - By attack from microbes (bacteria, viruses) [A], [B] & [C] are used up
    (post viral fatigue syndrome).

    - Stress also causes [A], [B] & [C] to get used up (in particular [A] which
    leads to fatigue, burn-out), and shortage of these nutrients makes one
    intolerant to stress. Resting conserves [A] & [B].

    - [A], [B] & [C] are essential for eliminating toxins, and therefore [A],
    [B] & [C] are also depleted when the body is exposed to toxins.

    - [A], [B] & [C] are essential for the production of hormones. Adrenal and
    testosterone deficiencies results from lack of these nutrients. Acne may
    result at puberty because the body begins to make hormones from [A], [B] &
    [C].

    any help with this would be very much appreciated.

    Just off the top of my head, it sounds like essential fatty acids?

    Some hormones are also mediated by cholesterol.

    With all the bum rap that Cholesterol gets, without it, you die.

    Kinda like Sodium. ;-)

    Yes, I see what you mean.. certainly Omega 3 is not present in significant
    quantities in many modern diets and is involved in energy production, the
    immune and hormonal systems - maybe that is [A], though I didn't think it
    was essential for ceullar energy transport, more that it was transported
    *into* cells for energy, and nor did I think it got depleted by
    stress/involved in stress tolerance, or was involved in detoxification
    either..?

    If it was that, though, then presumably [B] would be Omega 6 (although I
    thought that was plentiful in modern diets?). But in that case, what would
    [C] be, if [A] and [B] form it together?

    Might be referring to the other essentials that must come from diet...
    The body can make some of it's own needed nutrients. "Essential" ones
    are ones that must come from the diet.

    Essential fatty acids
    Essential Amino acids
    Trace minerals/elements

    Antioxidants are supposed to help with detoxification but AFAIK, Vitamin
    C is the only one that must be taken in the diet. Birds (and cats) can
    manufacture their own vitamin C. Humans don't. Not sure about the
    others altho' I know that D is made in the skin layers on exposure to
    sunlight, and A is made from carotenoids in the diet.

    Might be referring to the other essentials that must come from diet...
    The body can make some of it's own needed nutrients. "Essential" ones
    are ones that must come from the diet.
